About Jennifer Meisenhelder

If I had to box myself into a trite saying I would say I am a high-energy, low maintenance kind of person. Always on the lookout for the new and exciting, I have an insatiable curiosity for the physical world. This curiosity gets me into all sorts of predicaments from taking things apart, just to see if I can get it back together again (mostly successful) to analyzing the mechanics of a technically correct rugby tackle.

My father has always told me to do what I love and the money will follow. I am keeping this saying close to me as I take this leap of faith from the material security of being a consultant to the mentally rewarding vocation of graduate student.

The bottom line is there is no purer pursuit than that of knowledge. There is a certain freedom in it which can be empowering. With this in mind, I willingly put my Jimmy Choo's on ebay and exchange that lot in life for a quiet corner in a library. If I play my cards right maybe I'll contribute to the research that changes how consultants do things or I'll teach a class that inspires a student to consider environmental engineering as their chosen path.

I believe in life balance and that success breeds success. Being active with triathelons and rugby balances out my mostly mental vocation and keeps my energy up. Keeping my energy up allows me to keep up with my daughter. Dedication to my work, my fitness and to my daughter creates a kind of synergy and this synergy is probably responsible for my energy level.

I'm looking forward to changing my focus from corporate America to academia. But this change is exactly that: an adjustment in focus not in energy level. Hopefully I've given you an idea of who I am, what it might be like to work with me and a little as to what makes me tick. Still unsure? Feel free to email me any question you like.
